About Us
Stainless Seal was born, as so many great products are, out of a need and desire for a product that was not readily available. After my first child was born I began to hear about the harmful effects of PVCs found in many items commonly used with babies and young children, including bottles, teething rings and toys. As I learned more about the detrimental effects of these pollutants on the health of my family and the earth, I eliminated them from our home and began to find alternative products.
Further research into the misuse of plastics and the subsequent effects on our health convinced my husband and I to reassess our use of plastic in our home. With growing awareness we realized how dependent we had become on plastic for convenience and comfort without stopping to think of the long-term consequences.
When my son started school I realized my options for packing his lunch were limited to using plastic or taking the risk of sending a child to school with food in glass or porcelain; none of these options appealed to me. With no alternative readily available, I began to contemplate the perfect lunch/food storage container. I wanted containers in a variety of shapes and sizes that would easily fit into a lunch kit, made of a material that was lightweight, versatile, easy to clean, non-leeching, compact, stackable, reusable and gentle on the environment. With this image in mind I began to research different materials and found that stainless steel was the best material for the products I had envisioned.
Stainless steel is durable, won’t break when it is dropped, is 100% recyclable and will not have a detrimental effect on the soil or ground water should any of it wind up in the landfill someday.
Stainless steel is safe for my family and safe for the environment, exactly what I was looking for.
As our company grows so too will our product line. We have chosen to begin with heavy-duty stainless steel containers made from 80 - 90% recycled steel and #4 plastic lids. Development continues on a line of containers with stainless steel lids.
